Hill of Tramaud
This is a unique contract for the design, construction and lease of a netting enclosure system for this windswept site near Aberdeen.
The net not only contains windblown litter but also deters birds from the area too.
This satisfies licence conditions, avoids neighbour problems and better meets the flight-path requirements of nearby Aberdeen Airport by reducing airborne debris and possibility of bird strikes.
The leasing arrangement provides Sita with more budget flexibility and was developed as part of Ascot's long term partnering alliance for the Scottish region.
The 350m long suspension cables are anchored to pylons at each end and supported at mid span with tubular columns. The enclosed area is equivalent to a dozen international football pitches.
The enclosure net is suspended beneath the cables with fail safe connections that are activated by excessive loads such as ice or snow build up. This preserves the integrity of the primary cables should such an event take place minimising disruption to the landfill operations.
